Evaluation of the value of fasting plasma glucose in the first trimester for the prediction of adverse pregnancy outcomes

AimsTo evaluate the importance and usefulness of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) in first trimester predicting adverse pregnancy outcomes.MethodsA retrospective study 22,398 singleton pregnancies was conducted. Participants were divided into subgroups according to first-trimester FPG (low FPG, < 5.1 mmol/L; medium mmol/L ≤ 5.6 high 7.0 mmol/L) oral tolerance test(OGTT) results (normal abnormal) during pregnancy. Patient characteristics risk outcomes compared. Then, whole population women with abnormal OGTT served as a reference, relative risks maternal neonatal complications normal analyzed by categorical analyses logistic regression. Subgroup performed pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI).ResultsThe frequency increased increasing levels trimester, regardless results. High + Abnormal had worst outcome. Furthermore, OR value for 3.759 (1.680–8.412) compared OGTT.ConclusionsFirst-trimester values can help identify at outcomes.
